390 cam suggestions ...

Closing in on the main item --- the bump stick.

'66 Shortbed F100 2wd
390 / .030 bore Speed Pro piston L-2291F flat/4 valve reliefs
C8AE-H Heads / 69cc chamber --- probably non-adjust. 'shafts
modest gasket matching - cyl. heads and intake runners
Edelbrock Streetmaster manifold - may use 1" spacer again
Vintage Carter AFB 625cfm (never a "Holley moment")
C-6 / stock converter
may go 3.70:1 at rear axle ; rear rubber not taller than 28"

My best friend said,"get a Woodin Cam ... sounds great, goes woodin-woodin when you rev it". Yep, I hit him ... hah!

Seriously, any ideas gents --- prefer hydraulic and looking for noticeable non-stock sound at tailpipes.

Crane 343941. Any bigger will require a rocker shaft upgrade.

Will stock valve springs work.
If you have used this grind before, how does it sound and where did you find its power range noticeable?

A few people here have used it and all seem to be very happy. You have to get the recommended springs, locks and retainers. I use the 343801 cam. It lopes pretty good. The 941 cam should pull well up to 5,000.

The 801 ... does it work well with an auto trans? Looking for noticeable cam sound also.

I run a 3200 stall converter and it works great. I think it would be a bit sluggish with a stock converter but theres no way for me to tell really. The 801 has a pretty wide power curve. I have busted 2 stock rocker shafts with it though. You will need to get hardened ones. They run about 70 bucks a pop. Its almost crazy not to spend the $600 on the erson setup when you are looking into doing a major upgrade there. It comes ready to bolt on with roller rockers.

If I only had the goodies i used to have ... starting all over again with my 17 yr. old son. Had 2 sets of Harland Sharps, remember them?

Sold all my FE stuff, 2 Torino GT's(68 & 69) and 69 Mercury 428Cj Cyclone back when he was filling diapers.
