Hi all first time posting but not my first time on here. I have a unusual issue with my truck. One day at the river I went hard on the throttle and the truck stalled out. It restarted but was chugging only when in gear. Idle is normal and then once the truck goes into gear and I left off the brake it starts stuttering. When on the road at light throttle it stutters a bit, but once I push down the go pedal its gotta plenty of power. It also seems like the truck wakes up at anything over half throttle. I replaced the dim, icp, ipr done a buzz test replaced the uvch on both sides. I've done hutch and harpoon mod in tank and I have the hydra chip which no matter what setting it is on it still does it. I'm at a loss of what it could be. If anyone could give me some point to look at next would be great.
Tell us about your truck, model, year and such. I'd recommend putting the hydra in stock tune, or removing it to continue troubleshooting, to eliminate it as a cause.
Have you set up a scan tool like Forscan to watch parameters like ICP, IPR DC, FIPW when the stuttering occurs? Any codes?
How is the fuel pressure at idle and under load? This might be less important right now, since you have good power over 1/2 throttle.
2000 f-250 4 door short box, I have the edge monitor and will have to get the numbers when I get home I tried putting it back on stock settings with no change. I also get a weird burning smell when WOT. I don't have a fuel gauge but it pumps fuel into the bowl on top. I've used a buddy's snapon code reader but didn't show anything for drive train or injectors.
Also there is an audible difference between the low throttle and high throttle.
sounds like you have a leak plenum or other boots , takes a lot of air to push past and the smell is a give away, that’s just a guess , had the same issues before I changed out my boots
I spent the $$$ on only motorcraft parts the icp and ipr almost gave me a heart attack on price . I haven't checked fuel pressure yet how do I check oil pressure? I'm still a bit new to the diesel world but I know enough to replace parts and troubleshoot a bit. I have not swapped the cps yet. What is the honest to God CPS to get?
How do you check pedal position sensor? I have unplugged the icp and no change in the way it acts. I can see on my monitor the icp numbers go to default but doesn't make a difference.
