94 F-250. 460. In the process of installing a Banks exhaust system. Deleting the A.I.S. system. I understand the E.G.R. valve needs to be kept in. Question is it is ran thru the Tab/Tad solenoids for vacuum. Can I just run it straight off the vacuum tree in the intake manifold?
thanks
The EGR solenoid needs to be hooked up to the vacuum reservoir so it gets a steady draw regardless of engine speeds.
You need to look at the vac diagram somewhere in the engine compartment if still there or trace it back to the canister.
You can cap the lines to the tab/tad, but it's better to have just one line to eliminate leaks.
Little confused. Sorry. Are you saying keep the vacuum reservoir and all the vacuum lines. But cap off the solenoids? Or just keep the one line that runs the egr from the solenoids? And second question, what about just a complete egr delete? Since I am running a complete banks exhaust and deleting air injection system would there be any downfalls? I have found a egr delete kit that supposedly will not trigger a CEL.
Thanks for the help.
You may be over thinking this. All the solenoids operate off the vacuum reservoir. Think water hose hooked up to a 3 port outlet & you only need one.
The diagram I asked about?
I can't tell exactly how your 460 is plumbed, I just know how they all work in general for this gen trucks.
I will look into the vacuum routing. This started as a simple exhaust leak fix. Not so simple. I am mechanically inclined. And at this point we are down to a short block to fix problems. Just trying to figure out if I can delete the egr system for simplicity, or keep it as a stand alone from the AIS system. EGR tube is completely broken, so trying to make it easy for me. I do appreciate the input as this is new territory for me. Just trying to get a good clean running truck that is reliable. I know motors, not AIS and EGR as much. Thank you!
I’m kind of in the same boat with my 5.8. I purchased the EGR block off plate and EGR plug that is supposed to “trick” the computer, pulley and idler mount. I have yet to mess with the tube that connects to the back of the heads or the manifolds. Was waiting to get my transmission out for more room to work.
I still have a ways to go before starting my truck so that’s all the info I can give you at the moment.

Then keep the EGR system. It uses exhaust (inert gas) to help fill the combustion chamber so you don’t need to inject as much fuel to keep the air/fuel ratio correct.

I deleted my air injection & went short belt with a more modern, hiflo, hi-efficiency cat 10 years or so ago, Although recently the EGR has been troublesome, it's all intact.
I relocated the solenoids to the firewall near the pedal on a modded bracket.
