Trailer disconnect message

Everytime I hit the brake I get the trailer disconnected message. Once I let off the brakes it says reconnected. I also can't actuate the brakes manually. Not sure if it's a ground issue, brake controller issue, or wiring issue. Any ideas?

Normally its a trailer ground issue. Is your trailer actually grounded through the 7 pin? I have seen plenty of trailers that the only ground was the hitch which isn't correct.

Sounds like the brake wiring circuit has a break somewhere. Check fuse for the brake controller, the wiring from the truck to the brakes, and the brake common wiring.

First simple steps. #1 that a jumper cable and connect the trailer frame to the frame of your truck. If the problem goes away, you have a grounding issue. #2 Make sure the seven pin plug on your truck is clean and the connection is good. As a general rule, the brake controller is the least likely problem as is the wiring, other than at the connections.
