Man is it hot in Michigan today. And muggy. Scribed several reference lines on the distributor and manifold, labeled and removed all lines and wires. Will this distributor just lift straight out? And, and, found a new number under the grime. I was warned that engine parts are occasionally swapped out.
My engine just went from a 317 to a 279. Anyhow, just pull the distrutor out...
That's a Lincoln Y-block?
Anyway, yes, after you loosen the clamp it should come out, but if it has been a long time since it was removed or timed, they can get stuck. I'd suggest soaking with your favorite penetrating oil several times over a few days if it is stuck.
Note the way the rotor is pointing if you don't plan on rotating the engine while its out.

If I'm reading this right, EAL was 279, EAM was a 317. The y-block has EAL stamped on it, the intake manifold has EAM. The book indicated most parts were interchangeable. I don't know how Number Dummy can keep all these numbers straight. The motor lifted out nicely. Thanks for your help and advice.
Except for a little antifreeze spill. I'll get it cleaned up before the Princess shows up. See ya!
