Expy and others clear plastic hd lamp cleaning

I've been worried about cleaning them with regular stuff. A buddy of mine has aftermarket lenses he bought for the rear of his f-150 (I think they are the lightning tail lights) and after about a year they got fuzzy with scratches and such from cleaning them with brushes in car washes and such. I was cleaning my bike with some stuff we use called plexus which is for plastic parts and bike windshields. Kinda pricey but it makes your lenses look brand new and it removes bugs and tar quite easily. Just some friendly FYI!

how much affect do you think it would have on some yellow headlights...., I use some scratch and swirl remover, that helped alot, but they are still not quite like the euro clear corners, and it kinda looks funny, but maybe i might just have to buy new headlights

Yellow from the inside you mean? I've seen that on alot of mid 90's cars. I helped a friend take the headlights off of his mazda b/c they were yellowed and we took the clear housing off and washed it with soap and water. It helped, but not as much as we hoped it would. If it's yellowed from the inside I'd say your best bet is to get in a junk yard and find some that look better.

Found in FAQ on a detailing msg board: Guide to polishing plastic lenses. No recommendation because I haven't tried it.

This may sound funny but a little bit of toothpaste brushed inside the lense will help that is if you can get a small brush in there. The toothpaste acts as mild abrasive.

Is there any way to remove just the lense from the rest of the headlight housing?

I try it on my Aero s headlight lenses, but it finishes buying them new when they were broken.

Here is how you clean yellow headlights:

Get some "Tuff Stuff" carpet cleaner. Spray it all over the headlight lens. Let is soak for about 15-30 seconds. THen get a clean white rag and wipe down the lens. You will see the yellow stuff on the rag!! Repeat that prcoess about 5 times.

Then get some scrubbing bubbles soap scum remover and spray that all over your headlights. Let it soak for about 30 seconds. Wipe it off. Repeat that process 3 times.

YOUR HEADLIGHTS NOW LOOK BRAND NEW!!!

AeroShell makes a product called "Flight Jacket Plexicoat" that's great for all Plexiglass windows and plastic lens type applications. It's made for aircraft applications, but also does a very nice job on auto lenses. Look for it at the pilotshop at your local airport, or do a search here on the internet. I've found it for as little as $7.50, and as much as $15 for a 16 oz bottle. It's fast, it protects from UV rays, and it last.

Any one else try the "Tuff Stuff and Scrubbing Bubbles" trick? How did it turn out?
