Starting issues!!!!!
2003 E350 Super Duty
5.4 "L" VIN
I have been having starting issues. First it started giving me problems only on the first crank of the day. (Didn't matter the weather or time) The rest of the day I had no issues.
When I would turn the key it would grind (higher pitch). This went on for about a month. When I finally had time, I replaced the starter and solenoid (on fender wall). Cranked right up no problem.
Next morning, right back to problems. This time the grinding was a lower pitch.
A few days later I pulled starter and looked at flywheel and could see wear on the motor side of the teeth. Replaced flywheel. After this I had only an occasional problem for about a month.
then low and behold, it started back up. This time it would just click when I turned the key with the occasional grind mixed in on the numerous tries at starting. This lasted 2 weeks and progressed
into grinding and clicking on every attempt to start. I do occasionally get lucky and it will start right up on the first time, but mostly it takes multiple (10 or more) attempts to crank it.
I pulled the starter today and again looked at the flywheel and can see wear again on the teeth.
Any ideas!!!!!?????
