4x4 help
I am working on a 2006 F150 Lariat with a 5.4L engine, 109,xxx miles crew cab.
TL;DR R01 CCW relay is not working. Help?
I bought this truck from my brother, who didnt use 4x4 that much maybe engaging 2-4 times in his time as owner. I have owned it for 6ish weeks now. I flipped the switch to engage 4H or 4L, nothing. Further investigation, the transfer case motor isn't moving.
Order in a replacement, put it on and I shift it to 4H...Nothing. Shift it to 4Low.. it engages. I shift it out, it does not disengage. We go under truck and tap it (the new TCM) and it disengages. I take it off and say "Well, they screwed up at factory and its not working" and I return it, awaiting a new one.
I am looking at a tractor for a friend, and I get stuck. My employee climbs under the truck and hits it, and it (the old motor) engages 4L. I get unstuck (so the IWE is working) and we pull out to take it out. Long story short, it does NOT disengage. I limp it to my shop (I work 1/2 mile away) in 4L, and pull it into the shop. We take the TCM off and I go get a replacement that came in. We put it back on, it moves 1 full rotation to 4L, and it starts getting warm.
Going from there, we take the TCM off and manually disengage the switch to 2H. The truck still reads 4Low on dash.
After investigation, the fuse 111 is blown. We replace it and discover 1 one of the relays are working, 1 is not. The one (R02) that engages the 4WD (clockwise) works, but the other one (R01) relay isn't working. I swapped the relays position thinking "Bad relay" and they are still only working in that position. I opened a Mitchel1 account to try to figure out what I could do there, but I am at wits end with it. The MSS (the switch) doesn't show the right OHM but outside of that, I can't test the computer because I don't have a right scanner; so I am at a standstill there too.
I am looking for any thoughts at all. Thank you for reading, thank you in advance for thoughts.
If anything, I would be content to return it to 2H so I can go places and do things. As it sits im stuck in 4L (even though it's NOT in 4L, the computer thinks it is though)
I ask because that’s the normal procedure
I had a 2006 F350 5.4l (got rid of it last year due to rust) mainly a plow truck since 2011. Only used 4lo a few times when plowing and sometimes it would take awhile to shift out of 4lo.
I remember one time sitting in a snow storm trying to get it out of 4lo. Probably took close to five minutes. If I recall correctly, I would turn it from 4lo to 4hi (foot on the brake and in neutral), wait about 30 seconds, then turn the dial back to 4lo, wait another 30 seconds or so, then just kept repeating that. Finally it shifted out of 4lo
