starting issue
Need ideas,
I have a starting issue. There doesn't seem to be constant result. I can turn the key and the truck will start. Sometimes i turn the key and no start. Alternator replaced, starter replaced, transmission cable replaced, battery replaced.
Starter solenoid checked.
If you rake the key a couple times it will start.
Any idea what might be the cause. Driving me crazy.
Thanks for the ideas.
Turned out to be a bad battery cable
Didn’t see that on your list of items replaced, so first check your battery cable connections/ends for visible signs of problems. Might be an internal cable problem though (mine looked fine)
But more important, when it's not starting, what is it actually doing? Does the starter not even crank the engine? Do you get a click at the starter relay on the fender? Or is it just dead nothing?
The one clue that it works sometimes when you jiggle the key would seem to point towards the ignition switch, or starter switch if your particular year has a different layout (Ford used several over the years) but it can also mean a wonky Neutral Safety Switch if an auto transmission.
If you get a normal loud click, then nothing, and all the other power in the truck goes out, that's almost always a bad battery cable. But the inconsistent nature can also sometimes be caused by a loose, corroded, or just old and tired battery cable too, as seville said.
Let us know what you're working with and some of those other details.
Good luck.

Yes battery cables were next on the list.
Turn key no one loud click, all accessories go dead. Like it would starting. You can rack the key and same thing. 3 or 4 time usually starts.
Other times it will turn over on the first try.
I've noticed happens more on cold starts then hot.
My brother which does more stop and go kind of driving has it other way round.
I'm thinking a grounding issue.
