1999 F350 V10 6.8L SuperCab. OK, so before everyone goes NUTS!!! I know the procedure. I've done it on other Fords. I have the clip tools. It's the original OEM stereo. I'm hearing the click when I insert the tool. I do feel a springing while I pull the tools to each side. For some reason, no matter what I try, the radio will NOT release from the dash. In fact, the 1/8" of play I get of radio movement is actually pulling on the dash board fascia surrounding the radio!!! WTF! Any suggestions???
I have to finesse the one in my excursion every time. It usually comes down to cursing, taking a beer chug break, and more cursing before finally hitting it just right with the tools. My F350 stereo (same exact unit) comes out like butter. An old F250 I had was also stubborn - butchered by the PO and taped back to be functional. I think some people who don't have the tools try to insert wire hangers in there and end up jacking the mechanisms up. The joys of owning used. Will the dash bezel come out some with the radio still mounted to allow you to get a better inspection of the locking clips from the other side to see what the hold up is? I seem to remember I was able to do this on my old F250, carefully supporting the heavy stereo to not break the trim.
I had the same issues. The plastic rod (for lack of a better word) on the back of the factory radio for some reason just did not want to give up. It finally did and now I have an upgraded radio. It was a bugger though. Glad your came out finally.
