Went out and ran some mud 2 weeks ago. Just spent $1200 having the tranny rebuild from it. Did a lot of high rev action. Now I have this wicked valve clatter coming from the drivers side along with very high temps and a flickering oil guage. And since the oil needle is just a dummy needle, that means the pressure is fluctuating around zero at times. Blown head gasket? Blocked oil passage way? I did an oil change after running in the mud and it all came out clean, no water, or any indication of water. Could I have hydrolocked a cylinder and bent a rod? I should do a compression test...

I forgot, it only does this after it warms up. When I first start it, it runs and sounds great. 15 minutes down the road later, it sounds like I have a diesel under the hood.

Sounds like a bearing. Before I finally got around to pulling out my 400, it did the exact same thing. Oil presure was good cold, but not much hot. It was 55 cold driving, 40 idle, 16 driving hot, and 8 at idle, with straight 50 weight oil. My bottom end was shot and it was like that for a long time before I pulled the motor. I think the factory guage drops off at 7 psi so you could have some oil presure but not much.
