Try searching on e bay for a factory manual. My 1976 truck manuals, all 5 volumes cost me around $130 this summer. A lot of money but cheap if you figure the messes it gets you out of.
Authentic Ford manuals can be gotten from your local Ford dealer. If they do not list any stock for the manuals that you want (as in my case) they will, can, should direct you to the licensed distributor of these out of date publications. I purchased a complete set for my 73 for around 65.00. While a CD is very convenient it cannot replace a book. As you know a book will operate anywhere with or without power.
the cd-rom is produced by a company called "detroit iron" they are not pdf's. They use a "different" format, kind of a pain, but I believe they do it to attempt to prevent pirating. They are scans of the original manual, and organized in a manner that makes it easy to find what you are looking for.
FWIW, I think it was worth the money for the wiring diagram alone.
