The rear view camera has started acting odd. When the truck is placed into reverse the picture is displayed but very dark and distorted the picture looks as if there is a bad connection somewhere. The issue just started to appear randomly. I’m curious if anyone else has had this happen?
There is a whole series of posts on this, most are having the issue with the bed camera, that is what I have had issues with, truck is at the dealer for this now, some discussion that it is being caused by programming the DPF% readout using FORScan, don’t know if you have done so, others report the issue without ever having touched FORScan.
Yep, I have a 2020 (4 weeks old) with intermittent camera issues. I think Ford offers a functional camera, but only in Lariat and above models, when ordered with the LED headlight package and carpet delete...
Ive read on this forum about many others experiencing issues after tinkering with the DPF options in Forscan. Another member on the forum also noticed his cameras issues after using CarPlay. I decided to revert all but 2 of my changes in Forscan (Horn honk when fob leaves running vehicle and seat belt reminders). I also have not plugged my iPhone into sync since I’ve reverted back.
The last change I made in Forscan was adding average speed to the gauge cluster and global remote window close.
After these changes were made, my camera issues began. I reverted all but the 2 settings above. This was done about 4 days ago. So far, no weird glitches.
I removed my camera and worked the plug a few times, it helped quite a bit. Better, but not perfect. Still goes on the fritz occasionally. I might unplug it again, tweak the pins a little, and use some silicone grease.
I have had a hard wired surveillance system at my house for about 20 years. Every once in awhile one of the cameras will do pretty much the same thing. Adjust the connector and add some silicone usually takes care of it. Except when it was caused by a lightening strike close by, then it needs a new camera.
Let us know if it continues to work, I took all of my changes out and it didn't make a difference, the camera issues continued. The only effect I have seen with adding and taking away the DPF screen is whether it will select the camera at all, not the scrambled picture.
I need to check a wiring diagram and see exactly which wire carries the video, then pay special attention to that connection. If the female pin is a touch oversize and the male pin is exactly straight, sometimes it’s not a great connection. Just bending the male pin a touch sometimes takes care of it. Ford should have used coax for the bed camera video instead of a standard connector. They used coax for the tailgate camera, I don’t understand why they didn’t use for the bed camera too.
My tailgate camera was working fine up until today.
I had to pick up some supplies at Lowe’s. Some weight was left on the tailgate once all the cargo was loaded.
I arrived back at home and my camera glitch came back. This time the camera even flicked on and off. I suspect there is an issue with the connection in or at the tailgate.
Looks like a service appointment is going to be made.
