What gear ratio does a "C9" axle code designate on an '86 F-350? I have some old repair manuals that list what the different codes and V.I.N. characters designate but I don't see a C9 anywhere. Unless I'm missing it somehow?
Thanks.
I figured it was a lower ratio since it's a standard transmission truck but I didn't know what it was. Automatics usually got the 4.10's, right?
Thanks for the information guy's.
It didn't matter what transmission it came with. The 3.55 actually would work the best with an automatic, since the automatic has so much slip to it, especially the c6. That gives the drivetrain another "virtual gear" and will let it get going a little better. That is one of the main reasons why a automatic equipped truck has higher tow ratings than a manual trans truck.
My 89 diesel came stock with a c6 and 4.10 gears. You will run across the 3.55's now and then, but the 4.10's are much easier to find. In these days of wanting fuel economy, some guys try to hunt down those 3.55 rearends.
I didn't know they could come with either ratio. I was told the automatics got the steeper gears because of the slippage. I guess that falls under the category of, "don't believe everything you hear", lol!
I'll take the 3.55's seeing it's got the 460. Every little bit helps out there!
Thanks again for the info.
