I have a 1976 F100 with a 390 a 4 speed manual transmission. When I first bought the truck it broke the nose off a couple starters. That was an easy fix of course. Got out the timing light and yes the timing was super advanced. However since then it has eaten 2 more starters in a rather odd fashion. The little side cover seems to have been kicked off from the inside by the Bendix arm. Which then proceeds to pretty much destroy the starter. Any thoughts on what's causing this
would br greatly appreciated.
