Ok I have a 1986 f150 4x4 short bed reg cab, with a 302. I have been slowly rebuilding this truck for 2 years, one thing I did was dual exhaust with no cats. After I put a new starter on it, but now with the 90 degree heat I can drive for 20min or more and shut the truck off and go in to the store come out and the starter drags . If I let it sit for 5 min it starts . I have rapped the exhaust near the starter with header wrap and put a starter cover on it and still it dose the same thing, I want to do a mini starter but when I build the new 306 . For now I was wondering would a bigger gage starter wire would help?

Where's your timing set at? The computer controls it, but it still has to be set initially with the spout disconnected. If you have it too far advanced it will cause this problem. I am assuming it's fuel injected. Regardless, the timing being too advanced will cause this no matter if it's carbed or fuel injected.
Like Dave said, it's more likely a timing issue. What engine modifications have you made?
Are you using the stock computer (EEC)?
If so, be careful that your not in "limp mode" where the timing remains fixed all the time (open loop all the time). This can happen when you modify things on computer controlled engines and/or remove sensors (such as O2, Coolant temp. MAP, EVP etc.) that provide data to the computer.
I have never touched the timing, the motor is totally stock, I'm going to check my ground cable. I plan on building a new motor befor fall so maybe I'll do a mini starter and mid headers . I was wondering if anyone knows if the gt40p heads will work with my manifolds? I kno you need special headers for them

I am pretty sure that gt40p heads will not play nice with stock exhaust manifolds .The issue is clearance for the spark plugs and the plug boots . There are several sets of headers that will leave enough clearance when using 90 degree boots and others made specifically for the heads .
