For the bouncing speedometer, you can try unpluging the RABS module behind the glovebox. That's what cured mine. Apparently if you have a weak VSS signal this will take some of the load off. Of course you won't have rear anti-lock brakes but your not missing much.
It didn’t change my problem when I unplugged it but you’re right, a lot of times it’s that.
The new VSS pigtail came in. I still wasn’t satisfied with the 85mph+ speedo bounce. I ran a continuity test from the PSOM plug behind the dash to the old VSS pigtail and I got nothing on the red/pink wire. I jiggled it a bit and it worked. I pulled off the loom and tape and what do I find? Someone added a new pigtail and used butt connectors. I hate those things! The butt connectors were wet and my truck hasn’t seen water for weeks. I gave the wire a tug and it fell right out.
After some soldering it fixed all bouncing issues(I still have a slight surge only when using speed control that was present before all this mess)
