replacing tone ring
so it turns out i can buy just the tone ring, does anybody have any knowledge or input on what i'm in for for an install... any info is great!!

This is for the VSS?? What does the VSS do for a manual trans? I understand for a auto it helps with shift points and such correct?

I think all it does for a manual is the speedo.

yeah i did darin, thanks for that..it looks pretty simple indeed, hopefully the new ring will press/tap right on.. looks like i all i gotta do is pull the main gear off and put it right back together.. now i gotta find that website i found a ring for 50 bucks or something...

you can pull the vss and rotate the wheels to inspect that ring
i'll try to remember to take pics of the process and hopefully post them if all goes well.

its not to difficult. i have done the one in my 95 f250 after i bashed the cover in on a rock. pull the cover, pull the axles, remove the carrier bearing caps ( dont mix them up as they are machined to fit ) pull the carrier ( a big prybar works wonders ) dont forget to clean, locktight and torq. the ring gear bolts.
on an auto it will mess with the shifting as the trans dosent know when to shift and how hard, plus the rear abs has a fit. on the man trucks it will only affect the speedo and rear abs

i'm not very good at remembering to stop and take pics for a write up, But since i have had such a hard time even finding info or any posts related to this task, i will do my best to take some pics and do a write up. here are 2 links i found to the tone ring.. bronco graveyard also had a good deal on the gasket!
