Hey everybody, first time posting. I was hoping somebody could help me out. I have an 07 f150 supercrew 4x4 with the 5.4. Its got 125000 on it. I have recently changed all the coil packs and spark plugs. When I'm accelerating around 50 mph it will start shaking rather violent and sometimes but not always it will make the check engine light flash like its misfiring. But when hooked to computer no codes are shown. I have changed the catalytic converter due to exhaust problems but there is still a small exhaust leak present. I don't know if that could be the problem or not. Also, this could be my imagination, it seems like when the engine is warm and its warm outside it doesn't shake as much or as violent. Thank yall in advance
Still sounds like a misfire to me. The CEL only flashes when there is a misfire severe enough to damage the catalytic converters. Depending on the circumstance, the misfire counts will clear once the key is turned off. So if the problem happens again do not turn the key off before you scan it.
Thank you, so just to clarify, even if the light just flashes and doesn't stay on it will be able to be read unless you turn off the truck? Sorry for the dumb questions

Yes, the CEL flashes based on misfire counts and misfire counts clear when the key is turned off. But there should still have been some triggered or pending code set referencing the misfire.
Nitrodude, most of the time it shakes is in normal driving conditions, ill be in overdrive, rpms around 2000. I'll be accelerating just enough to get to 60mph or so. It'll start shaking at around 50 mph and last till I'm at 55 or so. The last time the cel flashed I was on my way to my dads and he has an odm. It didn't show any codes but it may just be that his couldn't read it. Since then it still shakes but hasn't caused the cel to flash

Reason: Clarifying
My question would be what brand of COP's and spark plugs were used? Were the plugs properly torqued? Is it possible whoever changed plugs damaged one of the COP wiring harness connector locking tabs and you're getting intermittent contact for one or more COP's? Possibly defective or prematurely failed COP?
The COP's are Duralast brand, the spark plugs are Motorcraft. My dad helped me install everything to torque. One of the COP connectors were damaged while changing them. We took it off and installed a new one with the twisting wire connectors(forgot actual name). I'll look into that further just to verify everything is good. Thank you
Hey i just looked up if this would effect the 2007 year F150's or any Super Duty with the 5.4L 3v and i think it does maybe someone else can chime in if they know more about this topic.
But i have found out that with the Ford 5.4 3v motors the Ignition coils have two different colored boots. (the rubber part of the ignition coil that has the spring in it)
that being said there is a Black and a Brown boot. I am not 100 percent sure that all the changes ford made in these year trucks but as i have seen it it goes as follows...
The 5.4 3v that came with ignition coil Boots that are Black use the Motorcraft Platinum Spark Plug SP546
The later 5.4 3v had an ignition coil Boot that was a Brown color and used Motorcraft Double Platinum Spark Plug SP509
I hope this helps and you can just simply swap the right parts and not have any problems.
Good luck and i hope this helps and feel free to ask anything and keep us posted on any updates

I've been chasing a misfire and found that the connector to one of the injectors was causing a problem. It was old fashioned process of elimination. That was after we replaced the valve covers because all of the hold down bolt holes for the coils broke off so nothing was holding down the coils. That was fun, not.
I've had the same problem, surprise.
2010 Platinum 2x4 5.4L
Code read cylinder 4 misfire. Replaced #4 coil and it improved, but still can't accelerate hard or pass someone with confidence. The thing is, when I use premium gas the problem is (almost) eliminated. Thoughts?
I recently had two occurrences of misfire on cylinder #4. There was water (not coolant) in the spark plug well. I’ve ordered a new rubber seal below windscreen and used silicone to seal openings in the plastic cowl finisher. I’m guessing some rain got in there.
