Carpet type?

What was the original type of carpet that the trucks came with? For example, was it 80/20?

Thanks.

If you're looking at new carpet they're all made by ACC so that's what you're going to get. if someone knows a carpet set made by someone else please list it I want one.

The original carpet seemed a little more shaggy , but I'm not really sure.

I believe that's what it was. let's face it **** carpet was in at that time so you can assume it was a little deeper. I'm pretty sure the brochures I have they call it cut pile. which still isn't a definitive description.

Of the dozen 73-79 Fords my dad bought for the ranch every one of them had the rubber mat. the '76 high boy I bought is the first carpet I've ever had so my experience is limited.

The original was 80/20. Cut pile started in the 80's.

In 1976 the sales brochure said:
Custom: black rubber floor mat
Ranger: nylon carpeting
Ranger XLT: cut pile nylon carpeting

440Six - don't believe even at its worst that the car industry ever used sha-g carpet in a production vehicle (apparently the censors don't like that word as is but allow shaggy?) with the possible exception of conversion vans.
Re alternative carpets - there is a company called Lund available through Summit and Pep Boys, and if you want something nicer from ACC instead of their standard cut pile they also have their Essex upgrade. I have no personal experience with either, I bought the standard ACC with the mass backing and it worked quite well for my needs, especially given its under-$200 price tag from Rock Auto..

I bought the same from ACC a few weeks ago but through ebay and saved almost $50 and got free shipping. The pile is not a bunch shorter an looks nice. Either way, extra sound deadening is going to be necessary to keep the cab quieter. What comes attached is very close to original but more would do wonders.

That looks really nice from here broktruk. And yes to the extra sound deadening.
When I put mine in I added insulation, a little Dynamat like stuff, and added some to the rear wall of the cab that I ordered from ACC at the same time so the color would match. Worked fantastic for sound, but one of the biggest improvements was when I put the new rear slider in. Yowza what a difference!

Yes, cut pile was available at least as far back as the seventies. Maybe farther with luxury cars. The Broncos had it in the Ranger package during the later years (I want to say by '74 or '75 maybe?). I went with loop pile for my F350 because that always looked to me like the stock carpets in older cars and I liked it better too. Cut seemed too fluffy to me and I worried it would mat down when wet or dirty. Loop reminded me of all the older cars I drove. The '67 Buick, the '64 and '66 Corvairs, the '66 Corvette. and other fun cars too.
Probably should not have worried too much about the matting down when dirty part, but that's what I thought would happen. Just harder to keep it looking new.

Other than wear and tear under my feet, my loop pile carpets always looked good for a long time. My '68, '71 and '79 Fords all came with rubber mats from the factory, but got loop pile when I changed to carpet.
The '68 has a reproduction floor mat which I hate, so as soon as I get the chance (I keep forgetting actually) I'm getting another ACC loop pile full carpet set.
Now if I can just choose the best color to go with Peacock Blue exterior without puking!
