My truck has an original rear bumper and brackets (not a step bumper), original tail lights, and original license plate bracket. What are people doing these days so the license plate is not partially blocked by the rear bumper?

If I recall correctly that's just how they were back then, I guess the lawman was just more forgiving in those days.

That's how mine is and I've never been pulled over for it. Been that way since 1999.

I got pulled over a couple years ago and got a warning for the same reason. The cop told me I would get a ticket the next time he saw me if it wasn’t relocated. I then mounted the plate right under the middle of the tailgate. I had been driving the truck since 1982 with the plate mounted by the left bumper and never had a problem.

Thanks. That is just what mine looks like. I know that's how they were. I'll leave it for now since I'm fortunate enough to still be using original Ford parts. I guess if I get pulled over for it, I'll move it like wellcraft17 did.

I've told this story before. But here it is again.

2016: my 54 just got back from the body shop . From there it went to a guy who was putting in a new rear main seal and a new clutch. Since he was going to pull the engine then I told him to degrease and paint the engine.

Anyhow, on the way home from his place it was dusk. I knew the one headlight was not hooked up. As I was 3 blocks from my house a college security cop with arrest powers followed me . Then he pulled me over with lights flashing.
I told him I know that the headlight is out. I was now one block from my house. He gave me a hard time and I guess I wasn't real nice either. He gave me a warning.... 3 days to fix the headlight.

As he was walking back to his cruiser he said, "And I could cite you for having an obstructed license plate!" I said in a loud voice, "This is a stock Ford truck with a stock rear bumper with a stock license plate bumper! If you have a pronlem with that call the Ford Motor Company!"

I wired up my headlight within 3 days and took it to my truck to the college cop chief . He marvelled over my truck and thought it was cool and saw that the headlight was fixed.

If you have collector or vintage vehicle plates you should be grandfathered, otherwise no. Sounds like you got pulled over by a recent graduate of the Police Academy.

I’m guessing he was probably 50-55 yrs old and he was having no part to my explaining that was where the plate was mounted coming out of the factory. I was not happy about moving the tag under the tailgate but sometimes it’s better to copitulate and move on. His patrol area was close to my house so it was just a matter of time before he would pull me over again

^^Wow that guy was having a bad day.

I drove my truck for 6 years--parked on the street--with no license plate whatsoever, and then put on a plate(rear only) with a California "1982" tag I found on ebay. Then a year ago added a California "1985" tag that's still there.
CA cops have never bothered me once.

My tail light brackets are flipped upside down or down side up!!!Gives you a little more lift for the tag to be seen.

Jealousy can manifest itself in many ways. Just think if you'd had blue dot lenses.

license plates

I have a vintage license plate that says "Oklahoma farm truck 1953" that i want to put on the front of my 53 f-100 . I would keep the real California plate on the back bumper . Am I asking to get a ticket or would the cops even care ????
Anyone know about this ?
Thx!

My native state. California require a front and rear plate. You can have your OK farm truck plate in front in addition to, but not in lieu of the front plate, afaik.
