press fit into the transmission.... the OEM has a teflon coating on it to seal it.... there are aftermarket that have 'O' Rings for fitment into the transmission.

Youre talking about the lower dipstick tube that goes into trans case?
As i understand theres no O ring between lower and case
Correct for the OEM style.... as I mentioned there are Aftermarket lower that do have O rings but not the Factory style
the upper dipstick tube does use 'O' Ring where it goes into the lower tube.
Yeah i got a new oring from the rebuilder
Guess im going to drain clean and use gasket sealer maker
maybe i need to do like Genscripter said and figure out a soft tube somehow
It was properly sealed
i my tube was a bit bent and kinked
and i tried to tap the kink out with a ball peen a bit and right the tube
but then when i installed it
it didnt sit right
So i wrangled it into place (the tabs didnt line up, so i flexed it into doing so as best i could without rekinking the tube)
so it was my fault
yeah, way too pricey for me too... I just posted for example .... I think the OEM tube is close to 20 bux too and to me that is too expensive also... Pull-A-Part always best place but sometimes hard to find.
No worries
the lower tube where its leaking is fine
The xmission rebuilder got back to me
I need to drain clean and reapply gasket sealer maker
my flexing the upper till it sat inline with the mounting spots definetly put force on the lower tube and i didnt think about it breaking the seal they put on
Right right
same reason i threw out what my game plan
as opposed to shutting what you had to say down
Its cool to be among others that look to help when and where they can
ive belonged to other forums....
Well im sure you know where that was gonna go
Im not trying to spout negativity on anyone so yeah
Ill let that be short
if you see this Genscripter
was the tube you replaced a polyurethane?
Or just the same rubber style we use for plumbing for the cooler
Actually got ahold of someone 3 hr drive away who has a transit 7.3 idi e4od that is down
hell sell me the dipstick and the doghouse box seal
So road trip it is

I just used a regular heater hose. I figured if it starts to rot or leak, I'd look for a more resilient hose material. With the doghouse, replacing the heater hose wouldn't be an issue like a truck. Turns out after probably 5 or 6 years, the heater hose has dealt with the tranny fluid, heat from engine, and vibrations without any issues. I should note, I used a section of the hypermax tranny tube to get around the up- and down-pipes for the turbo. I doubt the heater hose would hold up to the EGT's.
You can see my improvised tube in my turbo upgrade video here: (the tranny tube is on the passenger side of the engine, not to be confused with the rear heater core hoses on the driver's side.)

Good to find out the great news. Getting a real tube is just better. No second guessing on the lengths.
