if you can find parts that are not diesel specific, many econoline vans are still in junkyards in the southwest. Whenever I go to my local pick-u-part, I pick up spare van parts like doghouse seal, trim pieces, etc. But if you are looking for the diesel van stuff, it's really few and far between. I've been building up my inventory of van part stuff. I've had 3 requests for van vacuum pump brackets in the last year, so I was looking for a foundry (in the US) that can do a run of them for me. But the quotes that came back were astronomical. I'll keep building up my inventory of stuff so us Van IDI guys are not left out to dry.
Are you looking for a tranny dipstick tube or a crankcase oil tube? As for my tranny tube, when I installed my hypermax van turbo, their tranny tube design didn't work, so I used some high strength heater-style hose connected to the bottom half of my standard C6 tranny tube (that I cut down to about a foot in length. The rubber hose reaches up to the front of the engine bay, probably around 4 ft long. For the last 5 years, it's worked fine.
I do a small bit of Wax loss investment casting.... Genscripter you do 3D printing as I do so you know you can get Wax filament to print parts ... I know many folks that do this... but as you say cost may be prohibitive
my 3D printing is all FDM
you could Print the seal using TPU it's really a no brainer...... just time consuming
Tranny dipstick and tube
I got lied to a pick n pull here in Washington and drove two hours...
******s
one of the other yards gave me numbers to yards in Idaho and Utah and they wouldn't part with just the dipstick and tube
You can find the u-haul replacement cooler on ebay. the u-haul IDI van's of the 80's used to have the aux cooler that was slightly bigger than the standard e350.
I should really make a line of replacement IDI Van dipsticks and tubes for the crankcase and trans. It's easy to find the truck tubes, but the van ones are slowly disappearing.
In the meantime, if I were you, I would call a bunch of these junkyards (in the image below), and see if you can get the van tube and dipstick. If they are sure it came from a C6 and an econoline, it should work for you.
(come to think of it, did I ask if you had the C6 or the E4OD?)
Yes you should
every trans rebuilder ive called had 0 leads
That's kind of the problem. I wouldn't rely on a tranny shop to handle that search. I would just work with the junkyards directly. I've gotten a lot of rare transmission parts by using car-part.com and just getting the yard to pull the part and mail it to me. The key is searching for 84-91 econoline stuff. They have a filter for C6 or E4OD. Once you can narrow it, especially for a diesel van (which usually you can find it), then it's somewhat possible.
Like this one... it's for a E4OD with a 460, but maybe the dipstick tube and dipsticks for the trans are the same.

Ford E350 Van AT, E4OD transmission, 8-460 (7.5L),7.5L,AUTO TRANS,RWD,rebuild on 2017-0MI
I don't know. I just skimmed a dozen or so. The good thing is, there are still plenty of E4OD's out there, you just need to convince the yard to give you the dipstick and tube.
Thanks for the tips and your time
the ones i did call didnt yield me anything
so after advice from a trans rebuilder i purchased:
2002 7.3 PS 2wd 4R100 dipstick from Ford Parts for 45$
itll be here friday
Ill post pics with my old dipstick to show how alike they are
so that anyone else might need to know while be able to see
might even make another thread
All you really need is the bottom part of the dipstick that connects into the tranny. THe rest can be made with high-strength hoses. I replaced my dipstick with that kind of set up and I've been driving it for a half decade without issues. The hard part will be figuring out the length without a tube to compare it. Maybe if you drain your fluid, and fill it back up with the proper quantity, then dip the stick and then adjust the length of the tube as necessary, that could work. But It's kind of a pain because to properly check the fluids requires running the engine.
Found a dipstick for 30$ on ebay that has matching part # and looks the same from pictures
If if i dont find a solid tube
ill measure what i cut above the kink
the dipstick can pass the kink if you shove hard enough
but i assume thats how the previous dipaticks cap got broken
