I use diesel kleen (gray bottle) in every tank. You can get it at walmart for less than three bucks a bottle. I pour half the bottle into a full tank of fuel. And some advice, do not keep the half empty bottle in your cab. If it leaks the smell will knock you out. Come the winter months I will switch to another additive, Stanadyne which contains an antigelling agent that will help to prevent hard starts in cold weather. Of coarse you only need this if you live in a cold climate. Stanadyne is a harder to find than some others such as deisel kleen.

I run Stanadyne year round, and have found that the increase in mpg when using it offsets the cost.

Additives? I've never used anything other than quality #2 diesel.

I ran Diesel Kleen in my last tank and haven't noticed a difference at all, kind of disappointed.

I run Standyne all year and have been very happy. Like Quadzilla said, the mileage offsets the cost. My truck also runs smoother and quieter.

try it for another fillup or two..maybe the injectors were just so dirty, that it hasn't been able to give its all yet. are you using the grey bottle or the white bottle? what size tank do you have?

as said in an earlier post, I use the grey bottle (diesel kleen + Centane boost) 32 oz. I pour half the bottle in each tank ( i have the 29 gallon tank). I noticed mine on the first tank (truck only had 53,000 miles) and now I use it every fill up. Quality of diesel has something to do with it too. maybe you already got the really good stuff? I fill up at the same place all the time. but I can definately tell a difference in using the additive and not...so can my mpg...I easily gain about 2mpg when using it.

I too use the deisel kleen and stanadyne but have never noticed any incease in milage, but then again I seem to have one of those trucks that never get an increase in milage. Always 13.5

I also use the Diesel Kleen. When I first got my truck I stopped at a truck stop and asked around. Living in Georgia they said this was the stuff. I add it every 4th tank of fuel.

My truck was used when I got it (68,000 miles) and I notice it running better now than when I first got it but it did take a little while to clean everything out.

I've had a few diesel mechanics let me in on a secret about cleaning injectors: remove the cap to the fuel filter, remove the filter, suction out as much fuel as you can from the canister, replace the fuel you removed from the canister with Stanadyne. Replace the filter and cap, and start 'er up. Momentarily, you'll be running straight Stanadyne through your injectors, and you won't have to wait so long to get them clean.
I guess this is a pretty common practice when dirty injectors are suspected to be the cause of a rough running truck.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info on fuel additives. I ordered my first case of Stanadyne yesterday. Look forward to running CLEAN!

Well I would not have beleved that the Diesel Kleen would work as well as it does, but it sure made my 7.3 idle a whole bunch better, and that is within maybe 10 miles of driving. For a $1.50 a fillup its on my allways do list from now on for sure. If it helps with fuel consumption as well that will be just iceing on the cake.

Later Larry

ps how about doing the injector cleaning trick(filling the filter housing) with the Diesel Kleen product?

You probably won't see or feel the difference right away. If you read the instructions on the bottle, it says something to the effect of: "If this is your first time using a Diesel Fuel/Kleen or for maximum cetane boost, it is recommended that you use the entire bottle instead of the recommended amount." That's about 8oz per 25 gallons. I ran the entire bottle through my tank and....wow. I couldn't see the mileage increase because I was late and had to put my foot to the floor. This next tank looks promising, so I'll post with the results.

I am very impressed with Diesel Kleen. My engine runs alot quieter in cool weather with it. I don't really see a mileage increase, but I can really tell a difference in the way the engine runs.
