Found a 2wd zf6 with a pto for my 85 tow truck need to know if it will bolt up to my 460 or if I need a adapter plate, if so where do I get it
What engine did the ZF-6 come off of? If it came off a 7.3 powerstroke, the top two bellhousing bolts will match but you'll have to drill new ones for the 4 other holes right next to the existing ones. There may be additional issues with coming up with a flywheel, clutch, and starter that all work together right. If the ZF-6 came off a 5.4/6.8 mod motor, then it won't bolt up at all. Supposedly the mod bellhousing pattern is close to the windsor small block pattern but I've never actually seen a trans for one bolted to the other. If it came off a 6.0/6.4 I think you're out of luck there too, although I know far less about the bell patterns on the newer diesels.....
Also, no one makes adapters to put a ZF-6 on the back of a 460 that I know of.
