460 timing advance

I have a 95 f250 with a stock 460 and i was hoping to push a bit more out of the engine so i advanced the timing to 12 degrees over the factory 10 and noticed no change so i advanced it more...nothing. I've had it all the way up to 20/22 btdc and have no change in the way the engine runs at idol or full throttle... any ideas or explenations? Thanks.

Are you sure you're changing the timing correctly? Have you disconnected the SPOUT? I was able to sucessfully advance timing on my truck to 14° base timing which was fine for unloaded driving (even under full throttle), but would ping while towing so I backed it down to 11°. I believe you should have severe pinging problems if you were actually at 20-22° base timing.

Yeah im sure i was doing it correctly the above readings are according to my timing light, if i move the distributor in the opposite direction to atdc it runs rough and starts to miss. The fact it doesnt knock when it was so far advanced is what stumped me...now as for the SPOUT its a 2 wire connector (driver side fender) that has a grey terminator plugged into it...i took this plug out while fiddleing with the timing and put it back in...so should that terminator be left out then?

Are you sure TDC #1 is accurate, and that the harmonic damper hasn't slipped?
It's not uncommon for the rubber to let go and then you'll never really know where you are.

I've got similar timing issues, but can't find out if you should shut the truck off before disconnecting or connecting the "spout" connector. I shut mine off each time, and can see a diference with the timing light with it connected or disconnected. If I set mine to "0" TDC when I connect the spout it goes to 11-12 deg. no pining or hard start. but I have a loss of power. If I set it to 10 BTC with the spout disconnected it goes to approx. 22 BTC when connected, no hard start of pining, but still loss of power. I don't understand how it can idle smoothly at 22 BTC.
