p20ba diagnostic fee

FTE has been a wealth of information over the years. I have read numerous posts, in which, a Ford Representative named Crystal has helped many members resolve issues with their local Ford dealers. I am in need of such assistance, however, Crystal appears to no longer be active on FTE. Is there another member that operates as a representative?

I have a 2012 F250 6.7. The cel for reductant heater failure has been on for the better part of two years. I live in Las Vegas, so freezing really isn't an issue. I had the oil changed at Ford Fast Lane last week and I saw a note on the bottom of the invoice referring to the extended warranty for the def heater. Made an appointment, stating the exact problem. I dropped the truck off at the dealer at 8am yesterday. I was told that it was a common problem, the parts were in stock and that the repair would be done by days end, but first they have to run diagnostic procedure. About 3:30pm I got a call, the diagnostic had yet to be done and they wanted to keep the truck until noon today. No problem

Just got a call. Diagnostic results in $4200 in repairs needed (fan clutch, radiator, air cleaner installed wrong, damaged air intake tubes (Fast Lane did last filter change), etc... I said, "thanks, but no thanks". Just the DEF heater. O.K. will call when done. $200 diagnostic fee..... WTF

Thanks

have a conversation with Ford Corp an the service manager.

I would not pay for something not authorized. I would state you took it in for the DEF warranty repair only, which is free.

They can eat the rest.

Be advised Crystal left as stated along time ago and no one has replaced her. There unfortunately is no other best POC other than calling.

Best advise is to see the svc manager with a gentle non confrontational approach.

Thank you for the reply.
The service manager is who I spoke to in the first place. He seems to be of the same opinion, I am responsible for the diagnostic fee.
They did say that they would have to run diagnostics, which is completely understandable and I did sign the initial paper work, everyone has to, but $200 fee was never mentioned. It's not so much the amount, it's the fact that I only took it in because it was free.
It's like they're holding my truck for ransom.

I have 2 ford dealers in my town. One of them charges everyone out of warranty a diagnostics fee, even if you have the repairs done. The second dealer only charges a diagnostics fee if you don’t have the repairs done. The second dealer gets all the out of warranty work. Lol

I picked up my truck about 5pm yesterday. Neither the service writer or manager addressed the issue. Cashier gave me the invoice stamped "Warranty/no charge". CEL is off. Truck seems to be "peppier". Boost still doesn't go past 1/2 way, something that I had noticed happening about the same time as CEL.

Do you have a Ford reference or number for this warranty? I just called my dealer about the same thing. Last week the P20BA came on and comes back after I clear it. The dealer said it's not in warranty (2013 F250 Lariat, 140,000 mi). He thought the repair would be around $1,400 because they would install an entire new tank, sender, heater, .....the works. I told him the heater is a 200 - 300 dollar part....what ever. Diagnostics would be $290. Parts quoted me $ 382.45 for a new unit (5J225). Now shopping for a new unit, I will probably drop it in myself.

I pulled the skid plate, that was easy and had a look around for damaged wires. Nothing wrong so far.

Anyway, just wondering how your dealer did it under warranty, thanks.

My paperwork says, "Recall 18M01"
Then under repairs, Operation 18M01C and 18M01K

Thanks, that helped. I have looked it up and it states: "This program extends the warranty coverage of the reductant
heater heater
and sender assembly to 11 years of service or 120,000 miles from the warranty start date of the vehicle, whichever occurs first."My F250 has 140,000 miles so I guess I'm SOL. Glad that it helped you though.

Replace it yourself. There should be plenty you tube vids on how to do it.
