I have a 73 with rear tank and the old wide open filler neck. I put a tank in out of a 80ish efi truck and the inlet wat a bit smallet at the tank so I bushed the hose. I have no leaks but It will barely take fuel without shutting the pump off the tank vents and lines are clear and I have the metal peice on the hose where it goes over the frame so don't think it's kinked. All I can think is try to marry a 73 fillerneck with the inside tube flapper and ventfrom the newer style. Anyone ever done it?

Do you have the second smaller hose in the larger 2" hose? If not, you don't have the correct venting in place. You actually fill through the smaller hose and the venting takes place back around it through the larger hose.
You are correct the 73 doesn't have the center tube but the year the tank is from uses it. I think will have to figure out how incorporate it into the older neck some how. As the tanks doesnt have the 3/4 vent hose like the original
I recently installed a super camper special aft axle tank instead of a 1993 cab and chassis aft axle tank in my 75 crew cab in part because of the venting situation. I have the original hoses from the 1993 tank but didn't want to bother with figuring out a solution for mating the 2" tank neck to the 2 1/4" filler neck that has a metal vent tube I'd need to cap off. If you search on the later model truck forums here and elsewhere on the Internet you'll find other solutions. In reality, there is an easy solution if you are comfortable with it. Remove the rollover valve on the top of the tank and replace it with I think a 3/4" or 1" 90° copper elbow fitting that you can then hook up to the 3/4in vent on the older filler neck. If you end up doing this I've love to see some pics and a report back on the outcome.
I ordered a cheap ebay filler neck for the rear tank of an 80s f150, I then cut it all up and used the innner tube in my 73 filler tube. Won't know for sure if it works until tomarrow. Warranty voided Part i needed This cut helped me get it into the tank easier Trim for vent hose swear at it until you get it worked all the way in Ugly spot weld Done Had to trim the extra catches off cap but still fits and seals
filled it up this morning and it fills alot better, still can't wide open with the nozzle but 3/4 works fine. I should have put the tube a little farther down the neck because with the angle of the gas nozzle i can insert it all the way but i can and might correct that later but for no its much better
