I removed my midship tank and installed a rear center mounted tank. All went well until I tryed to put gas in it. Pump nossle clicks off almost intantly. I used the original fuel door, short stepsides I dont think came with aux tanks. Dont know if it is the vent tube causing problem or the fact that the extention is flowing level and not down hill. the fuel entry is higher than the extention and the tank. I didnt think it would be this hard to discribe. But ideas would be appreciated, or where to relocate the fill neck.
there is a small hose inside of the big hose. this runs down into the tank. when you are fueling, the fuel is inside the smaller hose, and the air dispersed from inside the tank comes up through the big hose. if the small hose is missing, the fuel can not flow down into the tank, because of the air coming back up.
Good info, Guess it would be like looking for a needle in a hay stack trying to find a stepside fender with both fuel doors. But its something to keep my eyes out for. I did a temp repair today, didnt want to, but I put fuel neck inside bed. Untill I can figure out a perminent solution. Just finished so havent tryed it yet. All this just to be able to make a nice header and duel exhaust install!
Hey guys I have to tell you bought a tip I heard about years ago, but verified yesterday. When trying to install the new filler hose on my rear tank it was a extremly tight fit, and I had very little space to work. I used soap. grease and no luck. I was about to give up and drop my tank again. I remembered I was told years ago about KY Lubricant. Tryed it and it worked like a charm, just put it on he hose and tank neck and in no time I had the hose on. Works awsome, so if you need to fit something that is tight you might try it.
Earl same thing happens to me... i put an extended tank in my 74... and for some reason when pumping gas it clicks off some gas stations.. others it spills out...
qbenplaya00, I installed the filler for the rear tank in the bed. I havent had a chance to test it out though. I have sence removed the motor for a rear main oil leak.
