Automatic trans shifting

7.3 has: P R N D 2 1
when drive in D goes slow and slowly accelerate.
In 2 & 1 goes faster and accelerate faster.
Is it normal and when to use D, 2 and 1? (Also when to press Overdrive?)

Sorry new with this kind of trans.

Thanks

I think your transmission is not getting power. You have an electronically controlled E4OD. If it doesn't get controlled by the computer it will start in fourth gear when in D. It will be in second gear in both 2 and 1. Often this happens when the EEC power relay fails and the computer doesn't get powered.

Check fuse locations I and U. If they are good, replace the TECA (EEC) relay.

You can swap in the horn relay for testing. For replacing it, one at the auto stores will work, you'll just need to snap/cut off the universal bolt/screw mount so you can close your box back up.

If the issue is the fuse and it blows again, suspect a faulty/shorted heating element or wire at the fuel anti gel line. You don't need it, and you can snip it and cap it off right at the filter or trace it back to a plug right near the box and remove the wire in that connector. It's a line that should have got it's own devoted circuit so if you want to replace or repair the element or wire, disconnect it and feed it a devoted fused and relay line off the battery that way nothing about it can effect the trans in the future.

Thanks for replying.
I follow your steps but I cannot find right fuses and relays. Here are fuse boxes that I have in my Van:

This is under steering wheel

This one under the hood:

Also I have two unplugged connectors which I don't know their purposes:

regards

Now that you have a pic, go ahead and remove all those fuses, diode and relay's. Spray the whole box with some electrical cleaner if you have it, or wd-40 if you don't will be ok. Spray up all the fuses and relay's too. With everything all clean now, start inspecting the fuses and replace any blown. I see a couple split open ones that should be replaced.........well looks like all 4 actually. That whole row of small ones are cracked.

You can look in your owners manual for the fuse locations or try a google search. That or just see if you have any larger blown fuses (the maxi fuses) if not, just trade those relays and toot the horn. If one is bad, the horn wont toot when you try one. Toss that in the garbage and when the horn toots, put that one in the trans location. It's the upper one as shown in the diagram. Then you'll have to replace the one for the horn latter.

The plugs are where you plug in an OBD1 code reader to read codes from the trans. Something you don't read right now, as your issue is already known (trans not getting power, which is why you have high gear start in D, as already pointed out by Mark, above.)

Don't keep driving it like that, you're going to burn your trans up. Your saving grace is that it's a diesel engine, otherwise you might of already killed it. We already know what's wrong. It's a fairly easy fix.

yes Van wiring is just a little different from the Trucks .. it's not really electrically different it's just Location of items.

BTW that large plug is for Servo style Cruise control Module... the smaller 2 pin plug maybe Hood Light I'm not real sure what that one goes to but I know it don't go the Transmission system.
