Electric Power Steering
Friend is out of town with a failing EPS in an 2018 Explorer. Mechanic cleared the code and it's working again. Needs to drive another 800 mi to get home.
Question: Does he fix it there or should he drive it home?

Rolled the dice after mechanic cleared code...made it from Florence, SC to upstate NY last night. Still OK! Now to decide whether to buy a new part, used part or reman......

I had an issue with the EPS on my 2011 F150 about 6-7 years ago. As I was driving to work one morning, I all of a sudden lost the power steering and had to man handle it a few miles until I got to work. I shut it off and when I restarted it everything was working fine. I haven't had an issue since.
What part did they say was bad?

The mechanic said the entire steering assembly, I guess meaning the rack and electric assist motor etc and an alignment. Cost was 2,300. or more.
He was in Florence, SC traveling home from Florida with NY plates.
