79 F250

One of my good friends is purchasing an F250. It has no heart, was a 460. He wants to put another 460 in it. He will use it somewhat as a daily driver and to eventually pull boats and other trailers. I'm a Chevy guy and don't know where to find Ford stuff. Looked at Jegs a little and didn't find much in the way of replacement/performance parts. Maybe I was just in the wrong place. Anyhow, where do you guys find engine stuff for you trucks? We want to make it reliable and start easily. Is there and easy/cheap swap to get away from points distributor? What headers, intake manifold and carb should we look at?

Thanks for your help!

This site has a lot of engine parts, body parts etc. Look in the classifieds. If you were close, I'd sell you some parts, but I'm in Southern Indiana. Anyway, you should probably go with a fairly stock rebuild on a 460, probably about 800-1000 for a good one, about 400-600 for a used one. I'm guessing that it is a C-6, but may be a manual. A good aluminum intake would be an Edelbrock Performer, Not Performer RPM, You will need between a 650-750CFM carb, I'm partial to Holleys. As for Headers, is it 4WD, or 2WD? if 2WD, look in Summit or Jegs, or JC Whitney. If 4WD, it is quite a bit more expensive, about 400 for Hooker Super Comp headers, or 450 for L&L headers. I have L&L, and I think they are some of the best headers made, Nickel plated so they will not rust, still look good after a year. Painted headers will always peel and then rust, at least mine always have. That should get you started in the right direction.
