2000 Ranger alternator replacement
Alternator stopped charging yesterday and confirmed the alternator was not charging. Picked up a new alternator installed with the 3 bolts and went to hook up the 3 connectors and the one that is attached with the 10 mm nut is corroded to the point that I will need to get another cable. What is this cable called and where is the other end attached? The cable looks to be corroded to the point where it will have to be replaced.

The cable to the alternator is part of the entire engine wiring harness. It would be easier to splice in a few inches of new wiring using heat shrink tubing and a new connector than to locate and install an entire engine wiring harness.

I removed and cleaned up the the end of the cable and it appears to be salvageable. I will need to splice on at least 3-4 inches with the ring connector. What gauge wire and what is the best way to splice in the new wire and ring connector. Crimp, sweat or.....?
