Axle flip

I’m doing an axle flip on my 1963 ford f-100 and I ran into a problem. My shocks are bottoming out so I need some different ones. If anybody could recommend a set that would be greatly appreciated. I also want to weld different shock mounts on the axle. Because it is sitting so low the shocks are starting to sit more horizontal than vertical so I want to replace the current shock mounts with ones that would be better for my application of lowering the truck. Any recommendations on what I should get would be very helpful.

Sorry, don't have any shock numbers to give, there is plenty of info out there that explains how to measure for shocks, you will have to make custom brackets as well. Looks like you have it pretty close to the frame, are you going to cut notches? How did you lower the front? Got any pics of the whole truck?

It looks like you don't have much travel before frame hits

Like others have said I hope you plan to c-notch the frame or the shocks will be the least of your problems. If it was me I would weld on new upper and lower shock mounts to add length and reposition for better geometry. Off road fab shops are excellent sources for these types of parts. Here is an example of a lower shock mount that would give you more travel. https://www.ironrockoffroad.com/prod...t-style-a.html

Thanks for the info. I already have the notches and their ready to go in, I just wanted to see where the axle would sit relative to the frame before I installed them. I’m sending my front axle into sids dropped axles to get it lowered a few inches.

Looking at your pic again, I bet you could grind off the two rivets in the top mount and reposition it to a little higher and less angled position. It might even be possible to spin it 180 degrees and bolt it back to the same two holes.

I flipped mine and went with Gabriel Classics. The numbers on the label are 82035, 739035, C18063 and the bar code number is 043645 574352.

I did use the stock upper mounts and welded mounts to the bottom side of the axle.

Best of luck, Pat

I don't really know. My buddy figured out the length I needed and found the P/N for me. Then I ordered them on Amazon.
