bed cap replacements

So I pulled out the plastic bed liner in my truck and am going to do a roll on bed liner. Probably Herculiner or something similar.
I went ahead and pulled off the plastic bed caps and thought about covering the bed underneath with the same stuff. But once I removed the plastic caps, I see that there are a ton of holes in there and the metal is flimsy. Plus the fact that the P.O. also drilled some holes thru the plastic cap into the bed for tie down points. At first I was thinking I could just weld up the holes but then it would take a lot of body work to smooth t out before I could herculine it.

So I started looking for bed caps in metal. I found some from DeeZee that are aluminum diamond tread and thought they may work. But on line, it says to place them over the factory plastic covers. The pictures they have on their website look like they are directly onto the metal bed rail.

So my question is, has anyone here used their products? How did it work out? Did you place them on the plastic caps or onto the metal bed?
I sent DeeZee a question on weather I could do this or not.

Also is anyone aware of any other products like this that would adhere directly to the metal bed and not on the plastic bed rails?

Thanks for any and all info and ideas.
Crusty.

Something like this?

I have the non chrome ones on mine, but I have the plastic bedrail. These are super handy though when hauling things taller than the bed

Naw.
I'm looking for something to completely replace the plastic bed rail caps that run the length of the bed sides.

caps

i think the OEM rail covers are the best option. they fit well and and are easy to come by when or if they get damaged. plus matches the tail gate cap also.

since the bed rails narrow and curve its hard to make a metal caps that fit as well as the OEM. and i think the plastic ones are a little more forgiving in terms of damage. the metal scratches and dings pretty easy.

I wound up ordering the DeeZee set from summit racing. At least it will be easy to return them if they dont fit right.
I'm not a big fan of the plastic ones. I wish I could have just rhino lined the bed top and been done. But way too many holes in there.
We will see what happens.
I use my truck bed a lot for hauling stuff and think the metal would hold up better.
