Hello. I'm trying to figure out why my directional/backup fuse keeps blowing. (Fuse is the correct amperage) All my lights work except the back up lights. Blinkers work fine but when I put the truck in reverse it instantly bows the fuse... Does anyone know where the reverse light switch is? I'm having trouble finding where the wires lead back to under the dash. Thanks.
If you are blowing a fuse you have a hot wire shorting out. X2 on reverse light switch is part of the SNW under (actually on top) the steering column, under the dash. If the problem is not there, I bet in your t/s switch itself.
Neutral Safety switch is attached to the steering column under the dash. It's activated by a short lever that moves with the shifter. It's not too hard to get to. If you don't find the problem there, I'd suggest you slide under the left side of the truck and check the integrity of the wiring. Mine ran along the inside of the frame rail in a bundle. Somehow, though the exhaust wasn't close to it, the wiring was burned and shorting to all the other wires in the bundle in one big melted mess! Got pulled-over by the CA highway Patrol late one night/early morning to tell me my back-up lights were lighting up the night!LOL Found the mess the next morning.CHP were nice and didn't give me a ticket, as I was headed out of state anyway. OH! do bee careful of that metal clip that operates the Neutral switch. They are kind of wimpy , usually a bit rusty, and the little "tangs" that hold it in place on the column can easily break off. Hope you find it, good luck!
