2003 Exp 5.4 4X4 is 4R100 interchangable for 4R70W?
Junk yard seems to have sent me the wrong one - I was sure I gave the transmission model #.4R70W. They sent a 4R100 I think. Are they interchangable or do I have to see if they will take it back. Shipped from TX to CT so I'm sure the shipping will kill me.

All the '03s Expeditions got the 4R70W. So if you gave them the year and model of the vehicle they should've shipped you a 4R70W. ( The Lincoln Navigator got the 4R100 tranny....) I would call and discuss it with them. They may just ship you a 4R70W at their expense. You never know till you talk to them.

Yeah 4R70W pan does not have a drain plug. The 4R100 pan does. The earlier ( 2001-2002 ) 4x4 Expeditions did use the 4R100, but in '03 they used the 4R70W only ( on both the 4.6L and the 5.4L motors....) . The '03 Navigator did use the 4r100 though.
That always leads to a lot of confusion.

Mark,
Thanks - that is what I thought looking at the diagram in the shop manual. There is a little cutout on the left hand side of the flange that mates to the transfer case on the 4R100 that isn't there on the 4R70W. I haven't looked at the pan again to find the plug but I'll do that tomorrow.
Good news is the junkyard in TX that sold it to me asked that I send photo's and invoices to them. Sounds like they may be willing to help. If it works out I'll let people know.
