5R44E transmission difference question
Can anybody tell me what is the difference between a 2L5P-AB and a 1L5P-AA, I have a 02 xlt 3.0 2WD

According to a chart I found a while back, the first digit is year of manufacture.
1 is 2001 and 2 is 2002.
L5 is the code for Ranger.
P is the design responsibility code, in this case "Transmission and Axle Product and Manufacturing Engineering (Automatic Transmission)"
The last two letters indicate release revisions or something like that.

Look on the drivers side door jam, or door inner edge info drive line tag under transmission, to determine which was installed by the Factory.
