Been driving dad's 94 250 7.3 idi diesel. No problems until a week ago. Starts up initially. Idles fine for 2 minutes then idles rough and eventually stalls. Won't start again easily. When finally does start I have to keep it running until it's warm. Once it's warm, I'm off and it runs great. Next day same thing. At first I thought fuel filter. Drained water out, no better. Now I'm thinking fuel pump. Any opinions would be appreciated.
when cold, pull the fuel filter off and see how much fuel is in it.
you may be suffering from air intrusion which is letting the fuel filter drain back to the tank. so when you start it, the filter is partially empty and you are only running off the fuel in the injector pump.
but this usually only lets the engine run for 20-30 seconds before dying.
also if you can, try parking with engine downhill. if it starts with no issues, this is another sign of air intrusion.
