Higher high-idle

I was just thinking about this when I started my truck today. When I put it into high idle there is an rpm increase and to a point it is noticable, but is there a way that I can increase the RPM's that the high idle runs at? It would just be nice for warming up on those extra cold days or running a hydraulic pump. I would be willing to make some modifications to have this feature.

just adjust the screw in the center of the solenoid.

You can adjust the high idle by unscrewing the rod that pops out of the solenoid and pushes against the throttle lever. Give it a turn n go from there. You should be able to jump battery positive to the solenoid terminal, that way you can fine tune right there under the hood n don’t have to wait for a cold engine.

Remember to manually push the throttle lever as the solenoid doesn’t have enough juice to push it, it just holds it. That’s why my solenoid burnt out, it was energized but nobody pushed the throttle to set it.

It's a 1/4" size, I have a little open end I use. I'm not sure how far it's adjustable out, but I've been able to get them to make it to idle at 1k

I put my cold fast idle system on a toggle switch years ago and unless the solenoids and mounting brackets vary a bit from engine to engine, the highest mine will set to is 900 RPM. Any more and I'm interfering with the normal idle adjustment screw.

You can loosen the two 7/16" bolts a pivot that bracket to get a little more out of it.

One could also stick a 1/4" socket over the end and grind some excess of the square drive side.

It's been a while, but when I checked that out, it would interfere with the normal idle screw setting. The solution would be a solenoid with just a touch more travel in the rod. With the solenoid set to get over 900 RPM, it is pushing on the throttle lever when not activated and increasing normal idle speed.

Ok, I am going to go adjust it here in a few hours. Also I'm assuming the process to put it on a manual switch is to find the ground and hot wires and rig it onto a switch...?

It would be easier to run new ground and power wires to it than to cut or splice into the factory harness, especially when everything is relatively close together.

the solenoid is already Grounded, you just apply power to it... mine kicks up to 1200 for the AC Compressor .... a Brass Schader valve cap fits fine for additional shimming.

So to go about this I would take a toggle switch and put power and ground to that so that it lights up like all the fancy switches do and then just grab the hot wire off that and splice right into the hot wire on the solenoid. Oh and I tested it and it in fact does bump up the idle quite a bit, way more than expected. I want to switch it I determined because with an automatic transmission, it's a bit sketchy running those higher rpms and the truck shudders because the TC is trying to lock up while the truck is stopped but in gear..... don't ask.......
