Nobody has mentioned this one yet: if you use your truck as a truck, sometimes I open the rear slider to slide longer lumber and stuff in to make it easier to haul.
My truck had a slider that leaked. I noticed water dripping in on a rainy day and didn't think too much of it at the time, till I pulled the rubber floor mat and padding out to put carpet in. Rusty swiss cheese floor. No more sliders for me.
I use the power slider in my 2016 all the time. Really cuts down on the turbulence of having the front windows down. The 77 has one and I love it for the airflow and access to the beverage cooler. Like a sunroof, they're gonna eventually leak. Another drawback, is whatever dirt or debris is in the bed of the truck will soon be deposited on your dash and throughout the cab when you get up to speed.
Sunday, (26 April 2020) locally it's supposed to be unusually warm, planning to install an 1996 Ford F-Series OEM sliding window in my 95 F-150 Eddie Bauer, regular cab SWB. Agree W/68Flareside240 about debris from the bed gets deposited inside the cab and particularly on the dash. A few years ago on the 95 E.B., I installed a Pace Edwards metal retractable bed cover, so I'm curious if the air flow will more or less compared to not having the bed cover.
Back in February 2020 I patronized my local junk yard, was searching for a 1992-96 Ford F-Series air intake tube from a 460 and found one. Wanted to install it on the 1993 F-150, 5.0L, it's a economical OEM performance upgrade, and while going the Ford Trucks, my eye caught a 1996 F-150 that had a cap. I looked inside the cab and noticed it had the original sliding window. Fast forward a month later, I called the JY and asked if the burgundy 96 F-150 was still in the yard and was told it was. So I told Ron (the guy I dealt over the years) I would be out that Saturday morning. We never discuss prices over the phone until I arrive and we start talking. I asked Ron what he wanted for the window, he replies "I had my guys take it out and it's on the front seat". So I asked him again, what does he want for it, he said for you, $60., I replied cash W/out a receipt and he said okay $50. I always take Ron a McDonald's cup of coffee when I go to the JY and continue sending him a Christmas card over the years.
Obviously I bought it, brought it home and cleaned it up, including the rubber. My neighbor who used to be a body man, will help me Sunday to install it. The sliding window is in like new condition, don't think it's been opened much, the felt in the track look like new, it's not loose and the glass doesn't rattle. Know the truck years belong in 1980-96 forum. Now for my 77 F-150, it has an after-market slider and I do use it on occasion. I'd rather have a slider and not use it, than not have one.
