I was just looking for any new opinions on any of the A/C system retrofits available for these trucks...The vintage air system seems nice, but the vent panel that bolts to the bottom of the dash looks very cheesy. Same for the classic air. It seems like these are the two major players. Any other companies that should be considered? What are your experiences with the Vintage Air and Classic Air systems? Thank you.
Can only speak for the Vintage Air units I have in both my 56's , looks of cool air, have to keep it turned down in the pickup, but need it turned up a little higher in my panel. Made my own dash extensions for both trucks.
I ended up pulling the AC because it was just too clumsy under the hood, but the heater works great, original defrost vents plus the two slim vents either side of the dash and the foot vents built into the heater core under the dash. Controls are in the radio hole with an oak bezel.
Go with under dash unit--I installed Vintage engineer unit for 1953-56 F-100 was a HORRIBLE nightmare --cowl vent handle had to redo-- lost entire glove box--TERRIBLE ENGINEERING-- that drop extension part is a JOKE --I went thru 4 wire harnesses from Vintage air till I got a good one -- ( THEY DID NOT PAY MY LABOR TO REPLACE THEM and said they were their fault DEFECTIVE )--had to cut control panel in my dash would not fit in that extension part back wire plugs hit under dash unit----- TERRIBLE ENGINEERED unit for this truck--- --GET A UNDER DASH heat--ac unit will be more then pleased and a easy install and will not lose glove box or cowl vent handle-- Good Luck

Uh Oh...…….my Vintage air system should be here by the end of the week.

I've had no problems with mine but didn't like the extension in their kit so made my own..I also eliminated the cowl vent on both of mine. The one I'll be working on next I'll be keeping the cowl vent so will face another challenge regarding the extension..
I am going under dash but not because of quality or fitment , simply because I'm CHEAP . My donor engine had air so this is as simple as it gets , use the under hood stuff from the donor and run the lines in to the under dash which if fully self contained .
I would have to look up the dimensions of mine but it was pretty much the shallowest I could find at the time and my pic is as far back as it has room .
