Hey guys I’m doing a clutch + flywheel replacement on my 66 and running into some issues. First I noticed an intense vibration when I fired up that felt like the flywheel. I later discovered that my motor (Merc 410) and the 428 are the ONLY externally balanced FE motors. Soooooo took my old flywheel to the machine shop and got it back on. Now the new pressure plate won’t align. Does the 428 balanced flywheel require a special pressure plate? I’m having trouble finding something specific for sale.

Be more specific, is the diameter wrong? Measure across the bolt holes on the flywheel and the PP, are they different? I assume you know they are not evenly spaced.

C6AZ-6375-A .. 410/428 Flywheel - Use with 11 1/2" clutch / Marked: C6AE-6380-B / 14 23/64" diameter - (6) 5/16" -18 pressure plate attaching holes on a 12 7/8" bolt circle / Obsolete
1966/67 410 // 1966/68 428 except Cobra Jet.
Note: The 1965/76 390 flywheel (Marked: C5AE-6375-K) has the same specs, but...
You cannot use a 390 flywheel on a 410/428 because it will cause a vibration that will eventually tear the center from the flywheel.
The flywheels were marked with rubber stamps, which by now, may no longer be visible.
