I ran into a problem last night working on my engine. I have a flywheel (casting# RF-D9TE-6380-BB) and a new 12" clutch set for a 460. I went to mock up the pressure plate to the flywheel only to find that the pressure plate is too small! The bolt holes on the flywheel measure 13.5" from center to center. The overall diameter of the pressure plate itself is barely 13". It's too small. I checked different years from the 80's on back and they all show two types of clutches. The one with three fingers and then the performance one with multiple fingers. I have always used the later and never had a problem. (part number MU80-1A for those that are wondering, the regular set is MU1011) The packaging to the clutch set was open but everythign was there and it hadn't been installed so I took it. Am I missing something here? I wonder if the pressure plate was replaced with the wrong one by mistake??
UPDATE: I found out the flywheel I had was from a newer model 460 that is externally balanced. Now I'm in need of a flywheel for an older internally balanced 460 but I'm having a hell of a time trying to find one that's reasonably priced. Does anyone know where I can get a flywheel for a internally balanced 460? If not can you make the internally balanced 460's into an externally balanced one?
