Parts catalog doesn't say one way or t'other, so I dunno.

Here's all the 1973/77 F250 4WD (High Boy) speedometer cables:

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

D3TZ17260A .. Speedometer Cable ~ 105 3/8" long / Obsolete

Fits: 1973 F250 4WD.

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

D4TZ17260N .. Speedometer Cable ~ 118 1/4" long / Obsolete

Fits: 1974/77 F250 4WD. See post # 5 for the sources.

D3TZ17260A .. Speedometer Cable 105 3/8" long / Obsolete

Fits: 1973 F250 4WD before serial number S00,001.

Do y'all have the original speedometer cable? If so...you may not need a new one

Inside the speedometer cable's housing is a woven steel core. It's supposed to be greased every so often, but ppl do not know that.

When the woven steel core's grease dries out, it binds up inside the housing and SNAPS.

Autoparts stores sell a "universal" replacement woven steel core.

You cut it to the correct length, coat it with a thin film of white lithium grease and install it in the housing.

Im going to need to look at mine some more too. Plastic gear in the t/c looks to be in good shape, the gear is in good shape, the core is in good shape. I spun the gear and watched the speedo rise. Never dropped off. Might be a bad spot on the plastic in the t/c but if so its not visible to me. I still need to go through my t/c so I will probably wait until then.

Mine on the inside was worse... huge chunks missing out of the gears. It was a mess. You should be able to chock the truck, pull the drive shaft and turn it by hand and see if there are chunks missing.
