Hello all, I just inherited a 1982 F-150 4x4 with 4 speed transmission. The reverse lights do not come on and I have discovered that the harness for the NSS is missing. I have one ordered but need to know where I will need to plug it into on the wiring harness. The plug I ordered comes with spliced wires on the end so any help will be much appreciated!
What 4 speed transmission do you have? Think stick but maybe auto?
If stick granny low or over drive transmission?
I can tell you if it is a stick, granny or OD it does not have a NSS or what is called a clutch lock out switch.
On the granny the light switch is on the left top to the rear think mine has red plastic on the switch.
T18 with the red switch
NP435 the red switch is closer to the shift lever
I don't have a picture of my SROD to show the light switch on it but if you need one I can get it.
If you have an auto I think the NSS goes on the transmission where the selector goes into the trans but not 100% sure on that.
I don't have any autos to check and with the "stay at home" I cant run down the street to a buddies to check and get pictures.

Sorry for not clarifying. It is a 4 speed manual with granny low. Im guessing its the NP435 because I can see the switch easily looking through the floor board since the shift boot is torn. Where would I wire it to?
There is a short 2 wire harness that runs from that switch down to the cross member over to the frame rail and plugs into the main harness for the fuel tanks and rear lights.
You may be missing this short harness but the Ford factory plastic plug should be there or at least the wires.
If you need me to I might be able to get a picture or 2 of this wire.
1 wire is hot with key on the other wire is the wire to the rear fro the back up lights.
When I rebuilt my truck, cab off frame, and got to the back up lights they did not work.
When checking I had power on 1 of the wires, as it should have, but did not have power at the plug on the wire at the transmission end?
Digging deeper I found the plug on the wire to be bad so I cut it off but what to use that would fit the switch on the transmission?
I have a weather pack plug kit from 1 to 6 wires. I was lucky that a 2 wire weather pack plug fit into the trans switch.
Good luck and if you need more help just ask

I appreciate the help! I think I know which plug it goes needs wired to. I will probe with a test light to make sure. If you can get a picture of the plug from the harness to the lights, that would be great!
NP happy to help.
The truck was inside and the water has dripped off it from the rain coming back from work this morning so was not to bad.
Hard part was getting my fat azz up off the floor
