hey guys I have a 1987 f-250. The wirign harness was really messed up whenever i bought the truck. I found another 87 wiring harness from a f-250 diesel. the only difference was it was a automatic wiring harness isntead of a stick. Well i finally got all of the harness installed into my truck. My truck is a 5 speed stick. My question is whenever i hooked up the batteries and tryed to turn the engine over it didn't do anythign at all. My question is where or is there a netural safety switch anywhere on the new wirign harness? If so where is it at and how can i by pass it because my tuck is a stick?
thanks,
jimmy
PS where s the netural safety switch and the other switches not allowing the truck to start up located at? I would like to find them so i can bypass them so i can get the truck to turn over
I know the automatics had a neutral saftey switch on the side of the E4OD transmissions where the shift linkage connects to the tranny. I don't know about the C6's, and I am not sure how you would bypass them. Someone more knowlegable should be on soon with more info for you. Good luck.
Jim
The C6 neutral safety switch and backup switch are also in that location, around the shaft for the transmission linkage. If you got the harness from a C6-equipped truck see if the part of it that is for the transmission can be disconnected from the main harness, I would not be surprised one bit if you could do that and be able to plug in your ZF5 harness in its place. Now, if the auto truck had an E4OD, things can get interesting, as the neutral/backup switch harness and the solenoid control harness are taped together.
I found the wires you guys mentioned. it was on a 4 prong plug by the transmission. i cut the 2 wires spliced them together and la la it turns over. what is the 4 prong plug for?
thanks,
jimmy
the neutral safety switch assembly actually has at least two switches inside - one is obviously the neutral safety one, and the other is for the backup lights.
i dont know what one i found but i traced the wire from where it clips on solinoid and found that it ran into the one clip by driver side fo the firewall on the outside of the cab. from that clip it ran down in to a 4 prong plug beside the tranny. The plug is round about side of a dime and has 4 prongs in it. I really have no idea what is was for but my zf couldn't plug it in so i just cut the 2 wires and wired them together and bypassed the plug and now it will turn overy by the key. Just dont know what the plug was for there.
