460 build
460 build
I have an 89 econoline Catalina (RV) chassis that I'm starting with. The 460 has 34k miles on it and I put in a C6 converter I think is stock but I don't remember for sure. It has a Dana 70 with 4:10s that I welded, I did a disc brake conversion from a 2000 econoline, cut 56" out of the chassis, 4 linked the rear and put it on air ride then I put a rusty old ****** truck body on it with plans to make it a mud truck, changed my mind and made it 2wd. I built this project 5-6 years ago then sold it 4 years ago. Well, I got it back yesterday. The guy did a good job on everything, got it running, driving and stopping. There's still a ton to do suspension wise in the front and I'll get to that soon enough.
I drove it down the road for the first time today and it makes good power but not near enough. I already have a set of C9 heads that are bone stock as far as I know. This thing will only be used as a toy intended to go fast be loud and boil the tires off. I want to stay on pump gas. I don't want to get into the bottom end of the motor if I don't have so and I honestly don't know much about 460s. I don't need to stay efi and don't mind replacing everything from the block up. Is there a combo that I can utilize the C9s I already have or should I ditch them? I have been doing tons of research and have lots to learn. Thanks for any tips.

Or stay EFI

Or go carb:
You can leave the EFI heads on it, and get an adapter:

Well, the c9 casting bumps compression, a big cam, work those heads, get flow from them, anywhere you can, a CJ aluminum intake and port match heads, good CJ headers long tube preferably, work that exhaust side of those castings, throw those rockers in the glove compartment, and get some rollers with good geometry, do some research, and start bolting it together. With those castings in original format, I am afraid power may be limited, but with a very expensive port job, they will tear your head off. maybe bigger valves, maybe new pushrods, just build it, valve train geometry, flow, compression, timing, more flow, and start the process again.
If you have a pump gas requirement the C9 heads are out with the shallow dish pistons that the 89 EFI engine has unless you run a really big cam that kills off lots of cylinder pressure.I do agree with getting away from the EFI heads unless you know what your doing with porting tools.D3 heads milled some with the same exhaust porting warhorse mentioned for the C9's and bigger valves can work well.Unless your willing to mix in some race gas,I would shoot for a combustion chamber volume of mid to high 80's vs the ~75 of the C9's.If this were a mid 80's carbed version with the soup bowl pistons the C9's would be perfect.
I've been looking at this top end kit and it seems good to me. Not having to piece everything together is a good selling point for me since I usually don't have time working like I do. Any thoughts on the kit? I've already been in contact with the company and they recommended this and another top end to me, i would get all the option also. https://barnetthighperformance.com/p...luminum-heads/
i happen to have a 429 at 843.2 hp dyno certified and another truck with a 460 dyno cert at 962.8 hp the blocks are stock , forged cranks ect i used turbos with good heads ect you need to talk to the guys at air research , and twisted wedge, they can spec out a turbo kit that will put you in the ball park
