truck stalls durring sharp left turns!!!!???!!!

I am finally shaking all the bugs out of my truck after I put it together.

here is the last "quirk" I have to figure out.

any time I make a sharp left turn the struck stutters and actually dies if I don't give it some gas.

it is most prevalent when I pull out of my driveway and go left but it also does it while traveling on really windy county roads.

I moved all the wiring around to see if someing was grounding out.......no change......

Could this be carb related (it is an edelbrock)

I don't know what could be causing this!!!!!!!!

I had a cracked coil do that to me once, hen I turned the electrolyte (or whatever is in there) would slosh to one side and lose connection.

It could be that one of the floats is adjusted low and when you slosh the gas away from the jet, it is starving for fuel. I think that the proper setting is with the carb top upside down, there should be a 9/32" gap between the float and the housing. A 9/32" drillbit makes an excellent gauge.

yeah it difienitelty sounds like a float adjustment. been there done that.

tip: make sure you use a pair of needle nose pliers to support the flange on the float when bending it.

goto carbs, owners manual and #2 tuning procedures.
hope this helps.

Those both seem like they are real posibilities.

I am leaning a little more towards the coil though as when I turn it just dies it doesn't buck like lack of fuel.

I will buy a new coil tonight and try it out.

thanks.

If giving it gas keeps it from dying, I'd lean towards the floats. If the coil is really loosing power, more gas would make it worse... right?

Just a thought.

well if the coil looses power intermintently thru the turn, only some of the cyclinders would be firing and explain the stuttering.

so I would say that more gas would have no effect.
but then pumping the gas(eccelerator pump) would supply fuel to make up for what is being lost from a low float setting and keeping the engine running.

well durring lunch I went out and unbolted the coil and started the truck..... when i shook the coil it stalled so I turned it upside down and rigged it in place by wiring it to the air cleaner and took it for a ride....no more problems. so I will nurse it home an put a new coil on it.

thanks for all your help/suggestions.

All,
I don't believe that for a second! That is a classic symptom of float misadjustment. I've heard the same story no less than four times on this sight.
We'll hear from this guy again and he'll confess about his float adjustment.
Wait and see,

Alright,, what are the odds at?? Who's got the moneyline set? Should I get Vegas Vic involved? I would have put my money on the float too, never had a coil do that to me before. But then, always something new to learn here, lol

All,
On another note: Never keep a leaky coil! They are full of a carcogenic (sp?) oil which is extremely toxic (PCBs).
Contain a leaking coil and dispose of it in your neighbors trash immediately!
