I just got a 67 Econoline from my grandma that has been sitting for over 30 years and I spent about 1 and 1/2 weeks getting it running. Today I got it running and I tried to shift it to go for a drive and it would go into gear, does anyone know why this is?
did you check trans fluid level? as little as 1 quart low will keep it from going into gear on an automatic trans.
the pump seals tend to dry up and sometimes the trans needs to warm up before the seals swell and let it go into gear.

well you see the problem is I have no clue where to put the tranny fluid
67 should have a C-4 trans. trans fill and dipstick should be on the passenger side rear of the engine block, going down into either the trans pan, or lower side of the trans housing. the tube is around 1 inch in diameter.

oh, ok. sorry, when you said you went to put it in drive and it would not go i just assumed it was an automatic.
you need to look at clutch linkage to make sure it is all connected and clutch is properly adjusted.

Think of it as a H pattern rotated 90 degrees. Up and away from you is reverse. Up and towards you is first. Down and away is second. Down and towards you is third.
The trick is finding the neutral slot to move from the lower, 2/3 to the upper R/1.
It is best to align the shift rods before you try to drive it.
Shift the shift lever to neutral.
Go under the van and loosen the two big nuts where the long shift rods connect to the transmission levers.
At the base of the steering column there is a hole where you insert a 1/4" Rod. While inserting the rod, wiggle the shift lever to get the rod to slip in. You could use a #2 Phillips screw driver if it has a small diameter handle.
At the transmission, rotate one of the levers front and back and then stop at the neutral spot in the center. Do the same with the other transmission lever.
Now tighten the two nuts.
Remove the 1/4" Rod.
Your shift lever is now lined up with your transmission.

Do you know how to use a clutch?
on these older ford vans the shift lever only moves backwards and forwards doesn’t move up and down
